March 15, 2010

Principal – Mr. Tush

St. Mary's School will be in session on Good Friday, Friday, April 2nd.

Keep selling those Celebrate St. Mary’s dinner/auction tickets and raffle tickets.  We would like to make this year’s event the biggest one ever.  If you have any ideas about new silent auction items, please give me a call.

Thank you for all of your help with another great fish fry last Friday.  Hope to see you again this Friday!

Athletic pictures will be in the Activity Center at 6:30 tonight, Monday, March 15th.

Need to know some information about St. Mary's School?  Please check out the mystmarys.com website.  It has everything right down to the lunch menu.  Current events are posted almost daily.

            Have a great Spring Break!

Kindergarten – Mrs. Denning

We will be doing individual evaluations for report cards this week.  Reviewing "pop-up" words, color words, and blending will be very helpful.  Report cards will be sent home on April 7.

Have a fun, safe Spring Break!

Grade 1 – Mrs. Hurst

Our field trip to the Symphony is this Wednesday.  Please remember to send a packed lunch and drink with your child that day.  A big THANKS to Mr. Beckman, Mrs. Kraemer, Mrs. Leader, and Mr. Rector for volunteering to chaperone!

In Phonics this week we will be learning the sound of digraph ue (as in glue).  Don't forget to study for this week’s spelling test!

Grade 2 – Mrs. Grove

We will be taking turns bringing home an “estimation jug”. Each student will fill it with small objects like pennies or cheerios. (Please, nothing smaller than a fingernail, because we have to count them!) When they return it to school the next morning, we’ll all write down our guess. Then we’ll count the objects to see who had the best estimate.

We need digital photos of the 2nd grade for our yearbook. If you have any, please send them to Mrs. Rice by email (suzy.rice@mystmarys.com) or send them in on a flash drive.

Grade 3 – Mrs. Rector

We continue to work hard this last week before Spring Break.  We will have a social studies test and a science quiz this week.   Several 3rd graders have met their AR goal for the quarter already.  The quarter ends on April 2, so there’s still time.

We received letters from our pen pals last week and will be sending them Easter cards.  The students are looking forward to meeting them at a picnic in May.   Looking ahead, we will be attending Ag Day at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds on Tuesday, April 20.  The students have transportation there, but we will need parent chaperones.  Look for more information soon.

Grade 4 – Mrs. Meyer

In science students have been learning how different organisms interact in an ecosystem.  They know the difference between producers and consumers.  They have also been studying food chains and food webs.  Students will have a science test on Wednesday, March 17.  A study guide was sent home last Thursday.

The end of 3rd quarter is April 2.  This means students need to have three book report projects finished by that date.  Spring Break might be a good time to get caught up.

Fourth graders get to participate in mass this Wednesday, St. Patrick’s Day.  I hope to see you there!

Grade 5 – Mrs. Baker

The 5th graders have been working very hard on their religion projects.  Their brochures are looking good.  We should complete these this week.  We are close to finishing our chapter in religion also. We will have a test over chapters 9 and 10 on Friday.

In science we have been discussing stars, constellations, and other things in the night sky.  I encourage you to point out the constellations at home since we don’t have a chance to see them during the day at school!

Keep reading for AR.  The end of the quarter is April 2nd.  This will be the last day to take a test.  Enjoy your spring break!

Grade 6 – Mrs. Rice

The 6th & 8th grades have math tests on Thursday.  Seventh grade had a math test last Thursday.

CYO info was sent home over a week ago.  Information and permission slips were included.  Dinner Auction ticket sales are due on March 19.  Reds game ticket orders are due by April 16.  The Reds game is Monday, May 24.  The first singing practice was last Thursday.

Grade 7 – Mrs. Powell

There will not be vocabulary this week; the 6th grade will have spelling. In science, we are working on plate tectonics. We will have a test after spring break.  The 7th and 8th grades are working on their novels, which we hope to be finished with before the end of the quarter.  We are working with adverbs in 7th grade and nouns in 8th grade.

Please remember to send in permission slips, participant release forms, and money for CYO Camp.

Have a great week and a wonderful spring break!

Grade 8 – Mrs. Birkholtz

It is good to be back into a routine again!  The 8th graders are busy beginning to learn the periodic table and to understand atoms and their make-up.  We are finishing our Civil Rights project and will return to U.S. history next week.  The 7th graders are now studying Asia, and the 6th grade is wrapping up their Civil Rights projects.  The 6th grade is also continuing to read Rascal and work with adverbs in English.

The 8th grade will go to SDHS on Thursday for orientation.  We do need drivers!

Mission Festival has been re-scheduled for Friday, April 16th.

Have a wonderful and safe Spring Break!

Market Day

            Market Day pick-up is Tuesday, March 16th from 4:30 – 5:30 pm.

Thanks to all who have signed up to help at the Book Fair the week of April 6-9.  You will receive a schedule the week after Spring Break.  We could still use more volunteers, especially on Thursday and Friday.  Students received the baggies for the One for Books program last week.  Send them in with change any time up until the book fair if you choose to participate.
